St. Andrew's United Church Women's "Social Club" - 2025

This “Social Club” was established to replace the United Church Women’s group who were extremely active for over 65 years.  Loss of participating members led to the formation of this new “Social Club” for all interested ladies of our congregation.

Our monthly get-togethers are held on selected Thursdays (although we would not be active in the summer months).  We will continue, however, to support our church functions. Women from other congregations will be invited to participate in our events.

Our very popular “Loonie Sock Coffee Hour” (held each December) will continue.  Funds collected from our St. Andrew’s Social Club will benefit our Benevolent Fund.  We will also continue our annual clothing sale which is usually held in August.

History of the UCW (United Church Women) at St. Andrew's

At its height, St. Andrew’s United had 7 Units consisting of about 12-17 members each.  Sixty ladies received their Life Membership Pins from 2010-2025.  Needless to say, each Unit became a “family” with members becoming life-long friends.

Our group worked hard to support the work of the church and were always available to provide receptions following funeral services, graduations and special events.  Outreach was provided to the Women’s Shelter, Food Bank and Youth Centre, all located here in Miramichi.  Money was also raised for the ‘benevolent fund outreach’ in the community.  A donation was made each year to the M&S fund along with a large monetary donation to the church.

A good-used clothing sale was held each year in August to help raise money for the church.  Through monies raised by the UCW, the ladies were able to provide everything that was needed for our kitchen.  As in any home, the kitchen is central to the life of the church.   We provided meals as needed or coffee and dessert for “Meet and Greets” held on a regular basis.

Members also enjoyed taking responsibility for church decorations according to season, whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter.  There were many ways to participate in the life of the church through the UCW.  Debbie Stymiest was President of our UCW for 30 years.  After much reflection and soul searching, the St. Andrew’s UCW group disbanded in May

of 2025.
